Ricardo Rio

Ricardo Rio was the Mayor of Braga between 2013 and October 2025. He was President of the Executive Council of the Intermunicipal Community of Cávado and chaired the Boards of Directors of Municipal Companies Theatro Circo and InvestBraga. He was a member of the Committee of the Regions and of the EUROCITIES network Excom . He was also, since 2016, one of the OECD's champions of inclusive growth. He was the Chair of the Global Parliament of Mayors (2023-2025). In 2022, he was awarded the “World Mayor for Sustainability”, given by The City Mayors Foundation, and the Benjamin Barber Global Cities Award in 2025, given by the Global Parliament of Mayors.
